Kara means in Japanese “empty”, te means “hand” and the word do means “the path”.
So, karate-do means the path to the empty hand. It is a martial art in which the ultimate goal is not to seek a victory but to work for the perfection of the character, of self-control and discipline through experience and practice. It is also a form of self defense which are used all the parts of the body that with hard and systematic training become effective and powerful weapons.
Karate uses throughout the body where it is in this way develops balance, wellness, coordination, speed and strength.
